Park View Primary School

Learning and Growing Together

RE

We follow the Bury Agreed syllabus, which is built around developing pupils’ religious literacy, ensuring they gain a strong, systematic understanding of a range of religious and non‑religious worldviews. It encourages pupils to make sense of beliefs, understand the impact of these beliefs in people’s lives, and make connections with their own experiences - an approach highlighted by local schools implementing the syllabus.

A key reason we use the Bury syllabus is its strong focus on preparing children for life in modern Britain. It teaches them to ask thoughtful questions, explore different answers, and engage in respectful dialogue with others whose beliefs may differ from their own. These aims are emphasised directly within the syllabus and by our school, noting its role in promoting open‑mindedness, tolerance and empathy.

The syllabus also reflects the context of Park View, acknowledging the diversity of faiths and worldviews within the community. It ensures a balanced curriculum that includes Christianity and other major world religions, as well as non‑religious perspectives, giving children meaningful opportunities to understand the community and wider world they are growing up in.
